Great service and amazing food. Our server was attentive and had a great sense of humor. Every dish my friend and I ate was scrumptious. We had three desserts (yes we did) and they were all tasty.
Enjoy my evening after a meeting for a new job ,walking around and I end at @agaveuptown , the fine Mexican food , where I sang with a cumbia band a few years a go , I had a margarita with tequila, very refreshing, I tasted and liked the good smoky slippery mezcal , by way I love the " jicaritas " where they serve it , and also Unexpected I had the best vegan today ,hongos & mole ,with a taste salsa picante ( que me lleve para mi casa in a little container) and edible flower, I highly recommend it for vegans and vegetarians!!! Also they have a beautiful space for private parties and meeting that you can rent , go the check and take you friends to enjoy and taste they colorful cocteles and drinks where the costumer service is very welcome until you leave !!!
You can order pitchers of their drinks! Just need to ask- we had the Ardiente Margarita which served about 4-5 glasses. Any drink should be good there, they do alot of infusions and I would come back and try a drink with mezcal since that's more on brand for a Oaxacan restaurant. Server was very good at giving suggestions and came often to check on us. Brought a spicy chile to the table that he thought we would like and it didn't disappoint. Ordered the sea bass ceviche for an appetizer which was super tasty and the perfect tang. And the chips that came with it were light and not filling which left plenty of room to eat our main entrees. We had: seafood molcajete (the best dish), Coastal Bowl, Tasajo, and Carnitas. Each came with home made corn tortillas and damn that really elevated the food. Had to ask for a second round of tortillas because we ate them so fast and still had plenty of food left over to scoop up into tacos. Worth the try if you're in the area and want an elevated Mexican food experience, especially if you've never had food from Oaxaca before.
It was my first time at Agave Uptown in Oakland! My friend recommended this place for us. I got the "Big Fish Taco" and it was pretty big serving and it did come with a side salad. I did enjoy how my fish was cooked and it tasted real fresh. My friend got the Tasajo (beef) and my other friend got the Enchiladas combo. We also got guacamole and chips as an appetizer. I did try one of their tequila drinks which was the Cielito. The drink was pretty good too and loved the extra garnish. They did charge $2 extra dollars for extra tortillas. Ambiance was really nice and we liked the cultural design and intricacies of the restaurant it was quiet when we went at around 5 pm with a few customers trickling in. The server was also very energetic and kind. I did enjoy the portion sizes, presentation and taste of the dishes as well. Will come back to this restaurant to try more of their selections.
Been here a couple times and each has been on point. First of all, don't mess around, get the chips and guac. The guac is incredibly savory, has the chunks of avocado so you know it's freshly made. And the chips are shiny and salty and so good on their own. I could eat that as my entire meal. But all their main dishes are also really good, I've had the enchiladas which are super saucy and rich and recently the cecina which is an adobo marinated pork that was super tender and flavorful (a little sweet). Beans and rice are nothing special but solid all around. Drink selection is great and the staff is super friendly and know how to serve a large group - if you're going with your work team you won't be disappointed. Definitely check them out, you won't be disappointed, and for the love of all that is holy...get the guac and chips!
Came for a work lunch during the day. Ordered a guacamole and chips as an appetizer. It was fresh and very limey, delicious. I got the cecina as a main entree. The adobo sauce was flavorful and the handmade tortillas really took it to the next level. The service was quick and efficient. It is a very pretty restaurant inside, full of character.
Absolutely 5+ stars. If I could give them more I would. My friend and I came in before a show at the Paramount theatre and it was so busy. Everyone we encountered was so nice despite running around. We were greeted and given multiple updates on timing. Once we were seated everything was so quick. The drink order and delivery was less than 5 minutes. We ordered a mocajete to share which also came out in record time, steaming hot tortillas. LJ was our main server who was so lovely and professional. We were checked on by multiple people and I honestly am blown away with the amazing service. Thank you team!
